Under the current global environmental trends, low-volatility and phenol-free liquid barium-zinc stabilizers have become the preferred choice for the PVC artificial leather industry. However, in actual production, even stabilizers that have passed rigorous laboratory tests may still face complex challenges upon entering mass production lines.
Recently, the TopJoy Chemical technical team, through remote transoceanic collaboration, successfully solved the problem of initial yellowing in white leather during the original production process for a large South American artificial leather factory. This is not only a technological breakthrough but also a perfect interpretation of our philosophy: Stabilizers are not standard products, but deep customized solutions.
Case Background: Production Technical Problems of Existing Stabilizers
The client is a leading artificial leather manufacturer in South America, primarily supplying high-end furniture and automotive interiors. During the initial phase of cooperation, the client reported that the liquid phenol-free barium-zinc stabilizer they were currently using performed acceptably in terms of static heat stability duration and environmental indicators, basically meeting R&D standards.
However, when using their original stabilizer for mass production, the client consistently faced a thorny issue: The initial whiteness of the produced white artificial leather products was insufficient, appearing slightly yellowish to the naked eye. For white high-gloss leather, this subtle color difference directly affects the terminal premium of the finished product. Consequently, the client approached TopJoy Chemical, hoping we could provide a more professional customized solution.
Below as their problems:
Deep Diagnosis: Uncovering the Truth Behind Insufficient Initial Whiteness
Upon receiving the feedback, our foreign trade business team and technical department responded quickly. Through video conferences, the client shared detailed information regarding their production formulas, PVC resin models, processing techniques and temperatures, and machine models, allowing us to identify the key to the problem.
Core Conclusion: It was not a lack of stability, but rather “performance excess” in the client’s original stabilizer that led to an imbalance in initial whiteness.
Due to the client’s high level of cooperation, we discovered that the original stabilizer formula, in pursuit of extreme long-term thermal stability, had a high proportion of long-term stabilizing components added. However, under the client’s specific formula and processing technology, these components—due to being “overly active”—produced slight chemical interference with certain additives during the initial processing stage, which instead inhibited initial color performance. Simply put, the client’s original stabilizer product did such an excellent job at “not burning” that it sacrificed “initial whiteness.
Customized Solution: Formula and Raw Material Adjustments
In response to this problem, our R&D team decided to follow our standard procedure by implementing fine adjustments to the formula and developing a customized stabilizer to replace the problematic one.
Optimizing the Formula System: We replaced the raw materials with more targeted, high-efficiency liquid phosphite. This new phosphite possesses stronger complexing capabilities, effectively suppressing metal ion activity during initial processing and curbing yellowing at the source.
Rediscovering the Performance Balance Point: We performed a subtle reorganization of the barium and zinc ratios in the stabilizer, moderately reducing redundant long-term stability duration and allocating more “energy” to initial color inhibition.
Precision Adaptation: While maintaining phenol-free and low-odor environmental properties, we ensured the activity release curve of the stabilizer perfectly matches the heat history of the client’s production line.
Data Verification: Using LAB Values for Accurate Performance Judgment
We first conducted laboratory tests on the adjusted customized samples.Following as the test report:

We performed comparative tests between the TopJoy customized sample and the client’s original sample. The results showed that the long-term stability of our customized product was still significantly superior to the client’s benchmark sample, while the initial whiteness was very close and difficult to distinguish with the naked eye. At this point, more accurate judgments were made through professional instrument testing of LAB values:
|
Test Index |
Client Stabilizer |
Improvement Percentage |

|
B Value (Yellow-Blue ) |

The data shows that while ensuring thermal stability remains more than sufficient, the initial whiteness of the product has received a qualitative leap. The client achieved great success in the subsequent second round of mass production trials; the white leather featured bright color and excellent texture, officially starting a long-term supply cooperation between both parties.
Core Concept: Stabilizers are Not Standard Products, but Precision Adaptation
Through this case, we want to convey a core viewpoint to global customers: PVC stabilizers are by no means standard products, but highly customized chemical engineering solutions. Every factory’s formula, resin model, technology, processing temperature, and equipment are unique. We insist on:
No Wasted Performance: Excess stability often means unnecessary costs and potential side effects. 。
Precision Satisfaction: We can flexibly adjust thermal stability duration, initial coloring, anti-precipitation properties, and environmental grades according to your specific needs.
Cost Reduction: Through precision adaptation, reduce the amount of additive used and optimize production efficiency.
TopJoy possesses not only advanced laboratories but also a technical team willing to go deep into the production front line to solve actual pain points. If you are also facing color fluctuations or cost pressures in production, please contact us and let us customize your exclusive “stability.”
